Hello! My name is Sharlene Hanaway.
Welcome to my website. I would like to take this opportunity to tell you about myself and the work that I do. I have over 20 years of experience working with individuals, couples, and families.
I use an eclectic approach to therapy based on what the individuals and circumstances call for. I find much value in utilizing Emotion-Focused Therapy, which helps individuals understand their own emotional responses, as well as the responses of the significant people in their lives. Research shows that this approach is highly effective for most kinds of relationships.
I also employ Attachment Theory for my Couples and Indivduals Therapy, which explores symptoms in the present brought from the past. With this, excellent results happen. A reformulation of understanding occurs when everyone is able to see how dragging reactions from the past into the present no longer suits them or their relationships.
My specialties include working with various kinds of relationships such as sibling, parent-child, friendship, co-worker, employer-employee, marriage and divorce, and I have long worked with teens, families, and individuals managing depression, anxiety, and panic disorders.
I graduated from the University of San Francisco with a Masters Degree in Psychology. My internship was working with children who suffered the effects of sexual and psychological abuse. I have worked for Contra Costa County Mental Health, where I worked with children and families. I also worked for the Department of Defense, advocating for parents who had been deployed, leaving little ones behind.
